Skincare Questions You Were Too Afraid to Ask

Having flawless skin..well, that is what every one of us wants. But, are we giving our skin the right care that it deserves? Maybe or maybe not. You may have so many skincare-related questions in your mind. What should be my skincare routine? Which skincare products should I use? And many more. It is common to have doubts. No one is born perfect with all the information built in their mind. If you have questions, you have to find answers to them.

Here we are to make things easier for you. If you have decided to get healthy, happy, and glowing skin, go through this list of questions along with their answers:

1. Do I Need To Wash My Face Twice Every Day?

Many individuals hesitate to ask this question openly, but there is nothing to hesitate about. The simple and straightforward answer to this question is ‘Yes.’ You must wash your face two times day, neither less nor more than that.

Wash it in the morning when freshening yourself up and then at night just before your bedtime. You may have put some makeup on during the day and even if no makeup, there are dust particles or so much oil sitting on your face. If you sleep with all this,  impurities will go deep under your skin and damage it.

2. Can I Wash My Face  Only with Water?

It is not advisable to wash your face with just water. You may feel refreshed, but it will not actually clean your skin from within. Water cannot remove oil, dirt, makeup, etc, properly. It can further lead to clogging of pores and acne breakouts. You will definitely not want this to happen to your skin. Therefore, a gentle face cleanser should be there in your daily skincare routine. Water will just make your face wet, but only a face cleanser will clean it properly.

Whether you are getting yourself ready for the day or washing your face to remove daytime impurities before bedtime, make sure that you use a facewash along with the water. Take an appropriate amount of face cleanser and gently clean your face using your fingers for around 30 seconds for the best effectiveness.

3. Is it necessary to Use Moisturizer Every Day?

If you still believe in the myth that moisturizers are only to be used during winter, you need to change your thought today. A moisturizer is a basic need of your skin. So, Yes, you need to moisturize your skin each and every day irrespective of the weather outside. If your skin gets too oily during summer, you can go for a light gel-based moisturizer, but skipping it is not at all a good idea.

4. Is It Actually Possible to Shrink My Pores?

You cannot actually change the size of pores or completely shrink them. But Yes, it is possible to make them less visible. Pores appear bigger when they have sebum trapped inside them. By minimizing the amount of sebum production, you can make these pores appear smaller. As per Healthline, niacinamide-based skincare products can be effective in reducing the visibility of pores. You can go for a Niacinamide face serum, which can help reduce sebum production.

5. When Is It Too Late To Start Using a Sunscreen?

Honestly speaking, it’s never too late to start wearing SPF. If you got to know the importance of SPF today, just go ahead to purchase one now. Maybe ten to fifteen years ago from today was the best time for you to start using sunscreen. But, if you missed it then, today is the new best day. Go for it now.

6. Should I Wear SPF Every Day, Even If There Is No Sun?

Yes, an SPF sunscreen is one of the essential products you must include in your everyday skincare routine. Sun’s UV rays are extremely harmful to your skin as they can cause multiple skin issues and even diseases like skin cancer. As per Cleveland Clinic, you should wear sunscreen every day. Even when it’s a cloudy or rainy day, the sun’s UVA and UVB rays are still there. So, you need to wear SPF every day no matter what the weather outside looks like. If you are continuously in the sun for long hours, you should reapply sunscreen after every few hours.

7. Is It Fine to Pick Pimples and Spots?

No, picking any type of spot on your face is never a good idea. If you have red pimples, it is best to leave them. In case of whiteheads or blackheads, you can use a face scrub, which removes these very effectively. Picking spots will only make them worse and can even lead to infections in some cases.

If you really think you need to squeeze your spot, do it carefully. Instead of doing it with naked hands, wrap some clean cloth or tissue paper around your fingers and press the skin around the pimple. Once the sebum comes out and there is blood, you must stop. However, prevention is always better than cure in this case. Instead of looking for ways to pick spots, try to avoid getting these spots by following a good skincare routine as per your skin type.

8. How Often Do I Need To Exfoliate My Skin?

It depends on your skin type. Although regular exfoliation is necessary for everyone, those with oily skin should exfoliate more than those having dry skin. If you have oily skin, you can exfoliate up to three times a week to remove excess oil and sebum. On the other hand, if you have dry skin, doing it one or two times a week should suffice.

9. Does Drinking More Water Really Improve Your Skin Health?

Yes, the hype about drinking more water for clear skin is real. It actually improves your skin health. Drinking more water, at least 2-3 liters a day, helps remove toxins from your blood, which further affects your skin tone in a positive way. It can help you achieve better skin complexion, texture, and clearer skin.

10. What is The Right Order For Applying Skincare Products?

The order for applying skincare products depends on what products you use. Everyone can have a different skincare routine and the order of application varies accordingly. The first step is obviously to cleanse your skin hence face cleaner comes first. After that, it is recommended to apply products with thin consistency first and then move to thinker ones. For example, toner is less think than face serum, so it comes next after face cleanser. The suggested order is Cleanser>Toner>Face Serum>Moisturizer>Sunscreen.

11. How Can I Identify My Skin Type?

If your skin looks glossy and shiny most of the time, it is oily skin. On the other hand, if your skin is tight and flaky at times, it is dry skin. If your skin feels oily in some areas and dry in others, it is a combination skin type. If you still find it difficult to identify your skin type, you can consider getting a skin analysis from a professional dermatologist.
